HIGHLIGHTS

Dr Li Yong's Tuina Training & Internship Program gives students a foundation and introduction into Tuina and TCM from which further studies can be expanded upon. The more intensive courses give more experienced students a valuable look into Dr Li’s Tuina system for aiding recovery from illness/ailments and for promoting and maintaining good health. This course is for beginners with limited time available for study.

Facilities: Clinic internship, staff facilities and resources.

Overview

Dr Li Yong runs several internship programs including an intensive two or three week course, in which the student trains in the clinic five days a week alongside the doctor as a trainee intern.

The course includes hands-on practice with Dr Li as well as several of the other doctors working in the clinic. The training will involve the following: Correctly identification of the meridians and acupressure points and their functions; massage, applying percussion and manipulating meridians; learning some basic background information about TCM and its diagnostic methods; provide opportunities to apply the massage techniques learned.

At the end of each course, you’ll be presented with a certificate to prove you’ve successfully completed each level of the internship program, co-signed by the Double Dragon Alliance and Dr Li, and are now qualified to practice Dr Li’s Tuina system at the appropriate level.

The courses are open to complete beginners, as well as students who already have some training in massage techniques (e.g. western or eastern disciplines like Swedish or Thai massage, reflexology, aromatherapy etc), and who wish to benefit from the additional techniques to be found in Chinese Tuina massage, thus honing and refining their own massage techniques, improving their understanding of the way the body and energy works within TCM and include a new element to their own particular training.

For students wishing to continue their studies following completion of all 3 levels of the intensive programs, there is further clinical training, designed to perfect the techniques, learn more about TCM’s diagnosis and treatment methodology, get clinic time and treat patients within Dr Li’s clinic.

This course can be tailored for groups or individuals on request.

Hello my name is niko! I finished the 3 levels of tuina training with the dda. I did 2 month alogether, so about 250 hours of training. I had a really good time in shanghai with my clinic staff, dr li yong, master wang mingbo and my translators who have all become friends during my classes. First thing we learned was to do correct techniques of massaging, which is not as easy as I first thought. Every technique must be performed relaxed and with use of the whole body power. You should not try to use your muscles to push or be too stiff when massaging. Everything is done with a kind of “taiji” principle. Relaxed, soft and internal. I had to push the gallbladder meridian on the leg the first days, together with the “hammering” technique. I remember when I had my first little success when master wang and dr li told me that I am now actually penetrating inside on the meridian, not only on the surface of the skin and muscles. Master wang was with me every day the whole morning and part of the afternoon. He taught me most of the things. His speciality seems to be the “zhenggu”, bonesetting. A series of movements to put the bones and joint in the correct position as well as opening them to let the qi go through. As a well known taijiquan master, you can feel his knowledge of martial arts coming together with his tuina knowledge. Dr li is the tcm specialist when it comes to deseases and treatimg methods. He taught me in the afternoon and was very fourthcoming and tried to help and spend as much as he could even with his busy schedule, which I appreciated very much! He would expain certain points for different problems, like headache, fever, pain. Late afternoon was usually for practising by myself what I have learned with the help of other clinic doctors and on my translators, which was a bit more relaxed time and I could practise on what I thought would need more focus now. During level 3 I had to massage on real patients with little guidance from master wang. The focus in this study is definitely the “hands-on” practise and less tcm theory. I believe that the best results people can get if they have already knowledge of tcm and do this course afterwards. I have to say that I had such a good time in shanghai, and want to thank rose oliver (the head of the program) for her concern and help everyday. All of the teachers there were absolut top and really friendly. I will miss learning and playing guitar with master wang during lunch break ;)

The beginner’s course gives students a foundation in the basics of Tuina massage techniques, with a certificate at the end of the course to show that you’ve passed the first level of basic training in Dr Li’s Tuina system. Topics covered are Dr Li’s Tuina system for preserving and maintaining overall good health, tonifying the body and detoxifying the meridian channels.

This course is a training scheme for Tuina massage and TCM and is run in cooperation with Dr Li Yong of the Conjoint Health Advisory Service in Shanghai. The internship program offers intensive training in Tuina and TCM with a qualified TCM doctor working in his clinic, getting the same standard of training as a local intern would receive; with certification at the end of the course for the different training levels received in Dr Li’s Tuina system which covers full body acupressure massage along the meridians, to detoxify, tonify and balance the meridian syst

Dr Li Yong graduated from Shanghai's Traditional Chinese Medicine University in 1998, following which; he studied privately in Dr Chen’s Shanghai clinic, training in Tuina and TCM for a further 4 years. He later studied Acupuncture for a further 2 years in Dr Cai’s Shanghai clinic. He is a fully qualified Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and is qualified to dispense Chinese Herbal Medicine, treat patients with Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Tuina and Cupping among other treatments.

Dr Li's  specialities are Tuina massage and Acupuncture treatments; providing diagnosis and treatment for a range of ailments and conditions, from the common cold to life-threatening conditions such as cancer, heart disease and liver/digestive ailments.

Doctor Li's clinic, was opened with the "Conjoint Health Advisory Service" in Shanghai and is due to open a second TCM clinic in Shanghai’s Pudong New area later this year. Dr Li’s clients come from all backgrounds and nationalities and for a variety of health concerns and problems. Dr Li’s Tuina system is excellent at health preservation; many clients come for a monthly check up and treatment, in order to preserve good health, as well as being extremely effective at treating all kinds of illnesses and problems.

Double Dragon Alliance & Dr Li Yong's Tuina and TCM Internship Program gives students a foundation and introduction into Tuina and TCM from which further studies can be expanded upon. The more intensive courses give more experienced students a valuable look into Dr Li’s Tuina system for aiding recovery from illness/ailments and for promoting and maintaining good health. This program is a 1 week beginners course.

Dr Li’s Tuina system differs from others in that it uses certain key meridians, namely the Gallbladder, Liver, Bladder and Pericardium meridians to tonify, detoxify and stimulate the blood and energy circulation. Although the massage treatment works on all of the body's meridians in turn, these are the ones that Dr Li and his teachers feel are significant in aiding recovery from illness/ailments and for promoting and maintaining good health. His system is specifically a meridian massage treatment, as well as including acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion too, and doesn't involve muscle massage or bone manipulation/realigning etc.

Please note that this course can be tailored specifically for groups as well as individuals so that students can get the most out of their time studying under under Dr Li Yong.
