I stayed for one month staying right at the gym and training twice a day, six days a week. I can say only the best things about the program, the trainers, the owners, the atmosphere, the attitude, and the results I received. Mam and Em - thank you! I will be back the first opportunity I can.

I am a beginner with no intention to become a fighter (yet). I like the kind of quality training that helps me improve my skills. And that's exactly what I got at Muay Thai Sitjemam camp. Within a week, Em and Mam helped me improve my basics, with detailed instructions and corrections. I came in with 'happy feet', wobbling and resetting between movements, and left with a more coordinated and controled stance that I can continue to work on.

Training alongside the high level fighters who practice at the camp, was the other great bonus. I'd find myself watching them, imitating what they did. And they'd also often give me tips and corrections. Highly appreciated. The training was varied - each day was different. And next to the common exercises, we were all given individual instructions and drills that match our respectived needs and levels. I absolutely loved the sparring sessions, with Em coaching us all the way through. Em and Mam have definitely raised the standards for what I will now come to expect from a Muay Thai gym. I will surely be back.

Thinking that Pai, Northern Thailand, would be a non-touristy area with a lot of nature, I searched online and found a gym called Charn Chai. I notified them I wanted to stay for at least a month. On their website it says the gym is situated amidst the rice paddies and that they have wonderful equipment, just a few students. I explicitly asked if it would be non-touristy, which they confirmed.

When I arrived, the place was packed with 40 tourists, loud techno music booming from the speakers. The instructors immediately started talking about money. The bags and the pads were old and soft. The place was not amidst the rice paddies, but close to Pai Walking Street, which is like a tourist colony. The offered accommodation was horrible (mattress smelled like old sweat and the bed was falling apart). And this is low-season. So I frantically started looking for another place to train.

Through an article by Vice, I found out about Sit Jemam, at just about 6km from Pai, and in fact situated amidst the rice paddies. When I arrived I was so happy: they don’t take more than 10 students at a time, the equipment is super good and clean, the people are dedicated, there is no music but only the sound of nature. No typical tourists; this place attracts a different type of people, respectful to the culture. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a good Muay Thai Gym.

Sitjemam muay thai is situated just outside the town of Pai, a popular backpacker and white water rafting spot in Thailand. Surrounding views include open paddy fields and mountains.

At the school you can expect to develop quickly. Expert trainers and Muay Thai professionals both frequent the camp. Training is both challenging and rewarding. The Camp owners are both friendly, welcoming and professional. This is not a overly busy and nor a commercial Muay Thai training camp. Instructor to student class ratios are very good compared to other gyms locally.

Students attending Sit Jemam range from backpackers trying classes for a day to experienced fighters, and everyone in between. Sitjemam is particularly good at catering to female fighters and a female multiple-times world champion regularly visits (as do male fighters). If you're committed to training hard, you will be pushed to reach your potential. In addition to producing and polishing fighters the camp regularly holds a very successful Weightloss programme.

Classes usually start with skipping and calisthenics, followed by shadow boxing, technique drills, and bagwork/padwork, then finish with some strength exercises. Sparring/clinching/boxing is done 3 times per week. The prices for training are in line with other muay thai gyms in Thailand, with the gym accommodation at the cheaper end of that scale. The Camp is open all year round, although I would recommend avoiding the agricultural burning season (mid-March) is possible.
