Learn More About This School

School Training

School Training is customised to your own training needs. Chinese Kungfu is generally divided into southern and northern styles. This school follows the southern style, whose main characteristic is include short and sharp power applied in fighting, making suitable for close-in combat. Training will generally pay a lot of attention to improving your gongli (meaning power/hardness/speed), without which any of the techniques that you will learn would be good-looking but ineffective.

Internal exercises, such as Qigong, are also an integral part of the training programme and will strengthen your breathing and firmness. This is achieved by combining inner and outer powers together. At Kungfu Family you can learn a variety of courses. On arrival, Master Li Quan will conduct a personal interview with you to establish your training needs and agree with you a training program which best suits these needs. Since people are very different in how they learn and what they like, he tries to find the best teaching approach for every individual. You can always discuss with the teacher in order to have your training schedule and course contents adjusted to your specific needs. For example, you may choose to specialise in certain arts, styles, weapons, and techniques. You may also wish to receive one-to-one tuition by the Master, particularly if you have specialist training requirements. This undivided attention helps you to reach your highest potential within the shortest possible time.

Daily Life at the School

Live in places at the School are limited therefore we recommend you book in advance of your departure especially during peak seasons.

Hello all, I began training with Sifu Lee Quan when I first arrived in Chengdu at the beginning of 2013, now almost two years later I continue to train with him, and consider it the highlight of my week. The school, located just outside Chengdu in the sub-urban Flower Town, employs various traditional training methods and equipment, such as rock weights and bamboo circles. The atmosphere among students is friendly. And Sifu Lee Quan is a dedicated teacher, who lives for Chinese Kung Fu (his English is also very good too!).

The school itself has basic facilities (bathroom/kitchen) and dormitories. I would recommend the school to anyone who has a genuine interest in learning Chinese Kung Fu. Whether you are living and working in Chengdu or plan only to visit for a short time. Training is a challenge and you must really push yourself to improve but in Sifu Lee Quan you have a dedicated mentor who will not only teach you about the practicalities and theory of Chinese Kung Fu, but also try and impress upon you the importance of Kung Fu spirit. Enjoy, and maybe if I'm still in Chengdu we can train together some time.

During my travel trough China, I made a break for two weeks at Kungfu Family. I lived at Kungfu Family the whole time and trained every day. As I was an absolute beginner, Shifu Li Quan showed me the basics of his Kungfu and he definitly infected me. Beside training was also time for interesting conversations where i learned a lot about Chinese culture. It was exactly what i looked for and I had a fantastic time at Kungfu Family. I can highly recommend this to everyone who want to do something different in Chengdu.
